Troubleshoot and train with Screenr

Get the Tip of the Day by Email

You know when you've got your volunteer calling in, frantic that the document you sent him isn't printing correctly, and you know that it's a matter of finding that one drop-down menu in Print Set-Up that would fix everything?

Or you're trying to show your consultant how poorly the website formats on your browser?

Or you'd like to give someone a remote introduction to a complicated spreadsheet?

These moments can be really frustrating, and can even derail projects for a time. But thanks to a new online tool, it never takes more than a minute or two from my day. Let me introduce you to Screenr.

When I'm faced with a problem like the ones above, I log into Screenr and take a quick screencast of what I'm doing. For example, in the case of a document printing incorrectly, I just click through Print Set-Up and narrate the steps. It's fast, it works, and then it lasts.

It's also a great tool for small training segments (say, to show people how to log into or navigate your internal Wiki, or how to use a new online tool your campaign is rolling out). At my day job at Capital Good Fund we have a whole library of training videos to share with new hires.
